The Thrills - Nothing Changes Around Here

No sabía que sacaban nuevo trabajo, de hecho pensaba que el segundo trabajo había salido hace poco.

"Nothing Changes Around Here" is the first single to be taken from The Thrills' new album "Teenager", which will be released on July 23rd.

The band decamped to Vancouver in 2006 for the recording of the new album, with producer Tony Hoffer once again at the helm. The resulting album is intimate and reflective, more personal and closer to home than the previous two.

The Thrills are currently playing an intimate tour of small venues throughout the UK, and will also appear at V festival, T In The Park and Oxygen this summer.-The-raft.com

Y cerramos el cartel de FIB Heineken 2007 con uno de los grupos más innovadores de la hornada de pioneros punk norteamericanos de finales de los setenta: Devo. Son para el pop lo que Suicide para la electrónica o The New York Dolls o Television para el rock. Formados en Akron –Ohio- en 1972, publican cuatro álbumes entre 1978 y 1981 absolutamente imprescindibles; ‘Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!’ (1978), ‘Duty Now For the Future’ (1979), ‘Freedom of Choice’ (1980) y ‘New Tradicionalists’ (1981). Movimientos robóticos, bailes mongoloides, tocados de ‘Clicks’ de Famobil, monos de obreros especializados, riffs de guitarra secos y cortantes y voces salidas directamente de un megáfono de feria son los elementos básicos con los que Devo moldean su universo y nos lo hacen llegar en forma de explosivas miniaturas pop, himnos para estudiantes de Inteligencia Artificial. No obstante, FIB Heineken coge más fuerza que nunca en 2007 en su programación diaria. Cada jornada está llena de infinitas posibilidades, de cientos de increíbles canciones que pueden sonar en el recinto del Festival, de atuendos que han hecho historia como los de los propios Devo o los inigualables The B 52´s, o que están a punto de hacerla como el de The Horrors –con pintas a medio camino entre Sigue Sigue Sputnik y The Cramps-.

Aussie quartet Augie March is the brainchild of singer-guitarist Glenn Richards. Formed in Melbourne, Australia in the late 90s, the band chose their name in reference to the acclaimed 1953 novel The Adventures Of... Hammond organ, stately piano, and a voice that imagines Jeff Buckley covering Van Morrison and you're not far off from "One Crowded Hour." The Verve se reúnen

La banda de Richard Ashcroft vuelve a juntarse para grabar nuevo material y ofrecer seis conciertos en el Reino Unido en noviembre.

El quinteto británico The Verve, que durante diez años liderase Richard Ashcroft junto a Nick McCabe, Simon Jones, Pete Salisbury y Simon Tong, ha anunciado que se vuelve a juntar para grabar nuevo material y ofrecer una serie de conciertos que de momento cuenta con seis fechas en tres ciudades del Reino Unido para el próximo mes de noviembre.

La noticia llega cuando se cumplen exactamente diez años de la edición del tercer y último disco de estudio de la banda, "Urban Hymns" (Virgin, 1997), tiempo que Richard Ashcroft ha aprovechado para desarrollar su carrera en solitario.

Las fechas de los conciertos confirmados de The Verve son las siguientes:

The Verve Reunite

Seminal British rock band The Verve have announced that they've reunited. The original 4-piece line-up of Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe, Simon Jones and Pete Salisbury were back recording in a London studio last week, and after a summer break they will return to the studio to complete what will become their 4th album. Late-era guitarist Simon Tong will not be a part of the reunion as he is currently busy with The Good The Bad & The Queen. The Verve have also announced a string of UK dates in November. No word yet of any U.S. release or tour. The Verve split in 1999 after releasing Urban Hymns in 1997.

Este post está dedicado a ti Ges ;). Y es que mirando el MySpace, ésta ha sido mi última request, una gran sorpresa porque me acuerdo mucho de este concierto. ¿Te acuerdas Ges? Fuimos ahi tú y yo, nos tocó pasear durante 1 hora, hasta que nos dejaron entrar. Y ahi estuvimos en familia. Nos firmaron el EP y luego corriendo al cumple de Pablo. ¡Cuánto ha llovido desde entonces! Jeje.
Si bueno tengo aqui un momento nostálgico porque entre esto y ver videos del PepeWorld Festival -en plan... Yo estuve ahi!!!- Estoy ^_^

A Los niños muertos los descubrí gracias,cómo no, a Julio Ruiz (Disco Grande, Radio 3). Y fuimos a verlos, comprobando que su sonido estaba genial. Y curiosamente a veces recordaban bastante a Smashing Pumpkins en su sonido. La banda no sigue pero si su música, y aqui os la dejo para que la disfrutéis :)

Este grupo,formado tal y como es hoy a finales de 1998,reune en su música una serie de influencias de lo mas variado dentro del pop y el rock. Estas influencias,junto con sus letras en español convierten a los niños muertos en una apuesta poco común dentro del panorama musical nacional. El debút discográfico de este grupo ha sido un EP de cuatro canciones con el título del mismo nombre del grupo y bajo su propio sello discográfico (LNM Discos 2000 -Ref.CD-S-001). La presencia de Carlos Torero (ex Radio Futura)en la batería dota al grupo de una madurez en el escenario impropia de una banda con una vida tan corta.
Desde que el grupo comenzó su trayectoria,los niños muertos han actuado en salas importantes de Madrid,como Moby Dick,Siroco,en Móstoles y en distintas localidades como Valladolid, Salamanca,Toledo,etc... The Sun recently described The Lazarus Plot as 'one to watch'. It's not hard to see why.

Formed in a South London pub, The Lazarus Plot have managed to create their own unique sound borne from a mesh of truly diverse artists such as Massive Attack, World Party, The Divine Comedy, DJ Shadow and even Duran Duran. Despite this fusion of contrasting influences there is something reassuringly familiar about the band's marriage of brooding, introspective lyrics with soaring, haunting melodies.

Support slots with Sony BMG-signed Norwegian three piece Lorraine and Britpop stalwarts The Bluetones, coupled with headline appearances on the London circuit (Metro, Halfmoon, Dublin Castle to name but a few) have only added to the band's burgeoning reputation. At the same time, festival appearances at Stroud Fringe and the Peavey-sponsored Till The Cows Come Home, have allowed the band to stretch its growing following far beyond its London base; a feat which has been helped further by radio appearances on the BBC across the UK and live sessions on several other leading regional radio stations.

With the debut single pencilled for release in 2007 on independent label Illuminated Music, it seems the band should make the move into the commercial mainstream sooner rather than later. And not before time as far as this journalist is concerned.

Tim Kinsella had spent the second half of the '90s trying to shake his past by writing far-fetched concept records with his dreamy post-Cap'N Jazz band Joan Of Arc. But that band's particular brand of art-rock never quite rocked the way certain fans hoped it would-thus, when word seeped out in the fall of 2000 that Kinsella had called in his childhood friends for a band that would essentially pick up where Cap'N Jazz left off, underground circles were abuzz with the idea of a more "accessible" sound being brought forth. This did not happen. Instead, Kinsella presented his Owls: a unique four piece collective that would blend free-jazz improvisation with loose and poetic post-punk that sounded like a Boy-era U2 taking hits of homemade acid. Though it wasn't quite the scream-and-strum return to form many expected, with Owls, Kinsella and his former mates have managed to reach out to a new generation of fans who can still respect him in the morning. Even when he is singing about having sex with Jesus.

Interpol ¿copio la portada de su nuevo disco?

Una de las 28-30 bandas pendientes para mencionar en el blog es Ola Podrida, una banda que descubrí hace un año gracias al blog de gorillavsbear. Antes de hacer un post en condiciones sobre ellos, no nos queda otro remedio que mencionarlos, porque Interpol parece que iba a sacar portada IDÉNTICA a la del album de debut de Ola Podrida. Así que, supongo que Interpol tuvo que cambiarla para no meterse en líos. De todos modos esto va a ser una gran "promo" para Ola Podrida. Y no parece la única "promo" gratuita. Hace unos meses se filtro un disco como si fuera el de Interpol, que resulto ser el debut de Cut city (ya hablamos de ellos en el blog). Y ahora la portada pensada por Interpol ha salido hace nada como portada de disco de otra banda.

Our Love To Admire is at once unmistakably Interpol and undeniably new. The witty and perverse "No I In Threesome" is an upbeat ode to shaking up a staid relationship propelled by Carlos D's peerless bass melody while the tenderly observant "Pace Is the Trick" proves that the band are still the masters of the dramatic – check the painful pause right before the sinfully satisfying return of Sam's thundering drums and Daniel's ringing lead guitar. The band's impressively seductive evolution is obvious all over the record, but never more so than on tracks like "Mammoth," "Who Do You Think" and on the album's lyrical centerpiece, the ghostly "Rest My Chemistry." While Daniel is understandably proud of the song he cautions against reading too much autobiography into its lyrics. "We always leave the interpretation to the listener," he says. "I mean, you shouldn't watch a movie for the first time listening to the director's commentary!"
Our Love to Admire closes with "The Lighthouse," a funereal dirge that is among the most unexpected and memorable songs ever recorded by the band. Almost entirely percussion-free, the song is constructed around Daniel's mournful guitar and Paul's sparten lyrics. Not only is it one of their finest moments to date, it provides the album's most goose-bump inducing moment, the very same reflex shivers that make Interpol live shows such an exhilarating experience. As the very last song the band recorded for the album it was, they say, the hardest to play. The hypnotic guitar part was played on a 50-year-old guitar that had toxins on the strings, providing Daniel with a blistering and painful sensation in his fingers. The band weren't even sure the track would make it out of the studio, but once they heard Paul's remarkable vocals they were floored. The song – and the album – doesn’t so much end as it bleeds to a close with a long, echoey coda filled with feedback and strin! gs. A fittingly dramatic end to a stunning and emotional journey. Oh Perilous World

Brooklyn, New York has always offered a fine range of talented musical acts and folk rock duo Rasputina falls directly into that category. Their new album Oh Perilous World hits stores June 26th, and they'll follow it up with a month long US tour starting Saturday July 7th in Detroit, Michigan.

"Cage In A Cave" begins with the gentle onslaught of low toned strings and is soon joined by the unconventional yet endearing voice of Rasputina vocalist Melora Creager. The sorrowful echoing drum tone gives the impression of the lonely life inside a cave while Creager wails the song into a lyrical frenzy.

New Believers

While there are three Elk Cities in the US (Oklahoma, Kansas and Idaho), there’s only one Elk City on Friendly Fire Recordings. Based in Brooklyn, the four-piece have just released their new album New Believers, where cooing vocalist Renée LoBue and drummer/producer Ray Ketchem teamed up with ex-Luna guitarist Sean Eden and ex- Lovelies bassist Barbara Ende.

“Cherries In Snow” is a schizophrenic track, jumping between chiming bells and grinding guitars, with a chorus channeling the best female-fronted of 90’s. Despite the talk of snow, the track is perfect for a summer mix tape, so start yours now.

Dappled Cities

Banda australiana que debutó en el 2004 con A smile como Dappled Cities Fly. El pasado año en Noviembre editaron su segundo trabajo en Australia, que ha salido ahora en Estados Unidos a través de Dangerbird Records.
Solo he escuchado su tema Fire,Fire,Fire, así que, no puedo decir que si se parecen a The Shins mezclado con Barrio Sésamo y demás :)

Granddance, though being Dappled's legitimate sophomore LP, was actually the debut album for the band to be released outside of Australia. It was recorded over two sessions through out 2006 - 2 weeks in March and 6 more weeks from July - in three studios in and around Hollywood, LA, namely Sunset Sound, Sonora Recorders and New Monkey Studio. The album was produced by Peter Walker and Jim Fairchild (of Granddaddy), and mixed by Jacquire King in Nashville. The recording sessions were the result of DCF's international signing with Dangerbird Records, an independent Hollywood based label, following the band's showcase at the 2006 South by Southwest Conference in Austin, Texas.

Dappled Cities Fly signed to Dangerbird for the territory of USA, and subsequently upon their return they were signed to Speak 'n Spell records for the territory of Australia. Being the band's homeland, Granddance was released in Australia before anywhere else, and as a limited edition double CD pack which included 3 extra tracks and live footage.

Described variably as a "cross between Pavement, The Flaming Lips, and an episode of Sesame Street" as well as "some kind of weird s**t that just rocks." "Granddance" was produced by Jim Fairchild (Grandaddy), Peter Walker, and Jacquire King (Modest Mouse, Tom Waits, Kings Of Leon). "Fun exuberant indie-pop that's weird enough to be interesting and familiar enough to be indelibly catchy" - Rolling Stone.

PepeWorld Festival en Barcelona-CANCELADO

Iguapop, promotora del Pepeworld Festival, ha anunciado la cancelación de la edición barcelonesa del mismo, el próximo 13 de junio, en el que estaba prevista la actuación de The Killers, Kasabian, Ash y Zeno And The Stoics. Los responsables del evento han alegado "problemas logísticos y técnicos" y han anunciado que a "a todo aquel que ya hubiera adquirido una entrada, se les ofrece la posibilidad de poder utilizarla en el Pepeworld Festival de Madrid el miércoles día 12, pese a que en principio la entrada para Madrid es más cara". En caso contrario, la entrada se puede devolver en los puntos de venta habituales.

El Pepeworld Festival sigue adelante en Madrid, el día 12 de junio, con las siguientes actuaciones:

Banda que he descubierto hoy. Me ha gustado la portada y vienen respaldados por Sony, asi que, he decidido escucharles. La portada en cierta manera me recuerda por la disposicion de los componentes a la del disco de Morningwood. Tambien esta banda tiene al frente una voz femenina. Pero mientras Morningwood es una banda que se formo hace algo mas de un año, quiza ya dos años, con componentes de The wallflowers... Krezip por lo visto lleva tiempo luchando (primer disco en el 2000), y parece que este va a ser por fin su año.

Krezip, lead by Jacqueline Govaert is famous in The Netherlands and Belgium for its attractive and energetic guitar rock.

Active members are singer and pianist Govaert, her sister Anne Govaert on guitar, Annelies Kuijsters playing keyboards and Joost van Haaren on the bass guitar.

Their breakthrough came with the single I Would Stay and their performance at Pinkpop in 2000.

Since 1999, Krezip have released four records. The most recent, What Are You Waiting For, is produced in cooperation with Phil Thornally (The Cure).

A new album, to be called "Plug it in" is scheduled for release may 11th 2007. The first single of that album is "Plug it in and turn me on".

Smashing Pumpkins en Madrid ¡2 dias!

Ya se sabe quien inicia los conciertos secretos organizados por MySpace. El 11 de Junio la banda elegida para tal evento son los Smashing Pumpkins, que actuarán en el Teatro Calderón. Será gratis, solo tienes que ir con tu perfil de MySpace impreso, y si eres uno de los 250 primeros... entras!!

Y al dia siguiente Smashing Pumpkins actuarán en las ventas, junto a The Killers, Kasabian, Triángulo de Amor Bizarro... Todo ello es el Pepeworld Festival. Que tambien se celebra en Barcelona. Y del cual ya hemos hablado en el blog.

Estuvieron al inicio de este blog. Recuerdo que tenía una de sus canciones en el escritorio y la añadí al reproductor de canciones y me gustó mucho. Tarde bastante en adivinar de donde la habia sacado. Al final recordé que había sido en un blog a tener en cuenta PlanetaPopRadio. De hecho la foto que pongo aqui, era la que ellos tenían puesta en el blog. Creo que en mi caso al hablar de esta banda use otra foto. Además sonaron en el blog con dos canciones, justo a Vannesa and the O's y otros, en un post que para ser de los primeros o casi, quedo bastante bien. Me ha hecho mucha ilusión ver que tienen nuevo material. Y claro, tenían que estar por aquí.


The Foundry Field Recording is following up last year’s debut concept album Prompts/Miscues with a new companion EP – Fallout Stations. The EP, which will be released this June on Emergency Umbrella Records, contains new songs, rarities and highlights directly related back to Prompts/Miscues.
The EP’s closing track, "Transistor Kids,” shows great musical range for the Missouri foursome. Following one minute of a beautiful and delicate piano solo, the song moves into indie rock haven territory talking of transistor kids contemplating the personalities of electric harmonies.
