Ryan Adams- Two MP3
Augie March -"One Crowded Hour" MP3
Moo, You Bloody Choir
Aussie quartet Augie March is the brainchild of singer-guitarist Glenn Richards. Formed in Melbourne, Australia in the late 90s, the band chose their name in reference to the acclaimed 1953 novel The Adventures Of... Hammond organ, stately piano, and a voice that imagines Jeff Buckley covering Van Morrison and you're not far off from "One Crowded Hour." The first track to be lifted from the band's third album, Moo, You Bloody Choir, it's full of exquisitely crafted melody and vivid heartbreak.
Fresh from their acclaimed U.S. showcase dates, Augie March continued their winning streak last week in Melbourne at the 25th annual Australian Music Awards with 33,000 members strong voting “One Crowded Hour” as Song Of The Year, as well as Glenn Richards picking up the award for Breakthrough Songwriter Of The Year. Rumor has it the band will return to our shores in August, just in time for the release of Moo, You Bloody Choir. Until then check out the MP3 and video of this year’s best song from down under.-Filter-mag
Jesca Hoop - "Intelligentactile 101" MP3
Kismet
Jesca Hoop was living out of a van and working as Tom Waits' nanny when Waits discovered her unique talents and got one of her tracks in the hands of KCRW's influential "Morning Becomes Eclectic" host Nic Harcourt. The song, an early version of "Seed of Wonder," became one of the most requested tracks in the station's history, paving the way for Jesca to make her debut album, Kismet, out this September.
In the words of her former employer, "Jesca Hoop's music is like a four-sided coin. She is an old soul, like a black pearl, a good witch or a red moon. Her music is like going swimming in a lake at night." And who's to deny the musical knowledge of Tom Waits? Catch a glimpse at Jesca's tunes with the equally interesting and beautiful "Intelligentactile 101" MP3 below or find her currently out on the road with The Polyphonic Spree.-Filter-mag
