Reverend and The Makers tienen nuevo sencillo, una canción pegadiza llamada He said he loved me, incluida en su The state of things. No estoy nada puesta últimamente en lo que suena en la radio, ni cuales son las canciones que están en las listas de hits. Pero seguramente esta banda esté sonando bastante.

Storytelling is a universal human instinct. Biographies of the recently deceased are the saddest form of storytelling that most people will ever know. People are remarkably good at it. Even those prone to shyness or believing themselves mealy-mouthed find they can get their lips to move well enough to describe a few snapshots from the life of the dead.
Albums, like the various camera angles of the funeral eulogy, are like scenes of a movie. Albums are the writer's chance to tell a story ten times over, from ten different angles, to ten different melodies. Abundant is the creation and deferment of hope; innumerable questions of what keeps lovers apart; what keeps him from getting it together; why she screws up every time. A resourceful writer will rise and strike down hope constantly, put people out of love and into the acrid glare of lost trust a couple times; confess a dozen of his own sins while hiding behind the writer’s mask; take revenge on enemies, and so on. All the while, touching the brush to the canvas - as the pointillist does with stabs of color - dotting guitar chords, barroom piano hits, pump organ swells….
Eulogies' Peter Walker does just this on the band's debut collection. With his voice dipped in reverb, he gently reminds us of the pre-histrionic honesty of Elvis at Sun Studios. With Chris Reynolds' drums pulsating at his back, Tim Hutton's typewriter-like bass notes keeping things uncomplicated, Walker lays out his ten scenes.
"We're all swimming in the bottles of our own accord," he intones in "Can't Relate." Elsewhere, in "Under the Knife," he confesses "pleasure comes without control …I’m scared to love what death can touch." Another song, “Useless Amends” tells a lot in its title alone.
There’s a saying that a single artist is fine, but a group has genius. This is true of athletes and certainly of musicians. Eulogies, the band, was formed on the road, bombing around America in a late-model maroon Dodge van, supporting Starsailor.
On that tour, Walker (then the single artist) fused together with his backing musicians over the course of 30 shows in 40 days. They developed that unspoken musical trust that all great rock and roll bands must have. They became a band (the group, with its potential of genius) in any one of a hundred truck stops, dozens of late nights in motel rooms, in between telephone busy signals and botched driving directions, at sound checks and in dressing rooms. Upon returning to Los Angeles, they mixed together a group of chiseled songs that only these three could sink into so easily.
The songs they laid down in the studio, at the direction of Walker and co-producer Hrishikesh Hirway from The One AM Radio, and mixed by John Goodmanson, an intimate of Sleater-Kinney and Blonde Redhead, will be available this fall on Dangerbird Records.

back before time Kings & Queens used to be the Indiana Experiment. Before that Rich was in The Pleased. Now see hear; its time for some new music. We just finished some recordings that may be recognised as an album of songs. If the music player above is working its heart out then you'll be hearing a little of that stuff right now. It is what it is - a layer cake of old vox and hammond organs, delayed guitars and some hot vocal harmony. You know, its music played by a group of people. For those with longer attention spans here's more info: some of this music was written up here in the northern California mountains, some down south in the desert and some back home in England. It was supposed to sound like one thing and then another thing and then it ended up sounding like its own thing. It was recorded in late 2005 by Dana Gumbiner at Brighton Sound studio and my very own Orderly Manor. I had the assistance of some amazing men and fascinating women and so now we are recruiting some of those peoples to be the band band; that is to say the public performance outfit. Esta canción ha sonado en este blog hace mucho, la conocimos gracias a Gorillavsbear, porque dijo que era como similar a la gran "Oh Mandy" de The Spinto Band. Aún no habiamos puesto el video, y si aún no conocias la canción, ahora ya no tienes excusa, para escuchar y ver este pegadiza canción.
De esta banda no hemos hecho un post propio, aunque si mencionamos su gran "Charlotte" y en el post de Coconut Records, antes de introducir a este artista, mencionamos algunos discos que estaba escuchando últimamente, y entre ellos estaba el de Air Traffic. Del cual ya dije, que si pensabas que sería algo del estilo de "Charlotte" te olvidaras, porque si no...en la primera escucha te llevabas un gran chasco,al descubrir que era un nueva banda con sonido Coldplay. A pesar de ello, al final después de escucharlo varias veces, acabas descubriendo sonidos agradables, y canciones interesantes, como ésta que hoy mencionamos, cuyo ritmo inicial y ese "...cold war kids..." te acaba enganchando.

Enamorada de su canción "Mar el poder del mar". De ellos hemos hablado por aquí alguna vez. Sus letras han sido una de las cosas más buscadas en este blog. La verdad es que quería haber hecho un post del nuevo vídeo ("La fuerza") de su primer trabajo, que dijeron que harían, tras su participación en la banda sonora de Yo soy la Juani, pero supongo que me he perdido un poco sus avances, tanto que resulta que ya van a sacar NUEVO DISCO!! Hacia mucho que no hablabamos de ellos,y dentro de nada sacarán su album de debut.
Entitled Passion Before Function, the disc was recorded at Headgear Studios in Brooklyn, NY with producer Bill Racine (Rogue Wave, Mates of State, Phantom Planet), and features ten tracks that run from guitar-drenched rock assaults to sweeping, string-driven ballads.
The album will initially be released in Japan by Fabtone Records on July 18th. The Japanese version will feature a bonus track unavailable on the US release, a studio recording of the band's much-loved take on New Order's "True Faith."
The US release will follow on September 25th, via Edge Delay Records. The band recently completed the video for the album's first single "All Together Now," which will premiere online in early July. The track is already available for download on iTunes, in addition to streaming on our MySpace page.
The upcoming second single, "Not Enough," is also currently streaming on our page.

In his own words AM describes “Soul Variations”:
“’Soul Variations' has more of a political edge. Does anyone care what is going on in the world right now? But like many of my songs I don't think it has to be restricted to that. I try to write songs that can be applied to different situations so the listener can be free to interpret the songs and not be restricted by what I "intended." Many of the songs off the album could be about politics, but could also be about personal relationships. I've never really felt the two are that different. Business, politics and personal relationships all deal with the same fundamental qualities: love, passion, power and sometimes evil. I also feel this record has a much more communal vibe and more of a live feel. There are very little overdubs and the record has a lot of space. I did the whole thing on 2-inch tape so the analog nature of the recording gives it a much deeper and richer feel than my first record. Musically I feel it has a lot more groove to it. I've been listening to a lot of jazz, R&B and Brazilian music over the last couple of years. I also produced this album myself so that was a great experience.”
++++++++++++++ "Soul Variations" is a rich and musically varied album with political undertones heavily influenced by the current American political climate and the effects Hurricane Katrina had on AM’s hometown of New Orleans, what the tragic event revealed about America, and perhaps of humanity in general. “Soul Variations” also offers AM’s signature songs of lost love such as "Stepping Stone" and "Live A Lie".

Equally classic is the story that brought AM to where he is today. Small-town background (Tulsa, OK) led to a guitar-in-hand musical calling and relocation to Los Angeles. He played South by Southwest (is there any amazing artist nowadays that wasn't discovered there?) and caught the attention of Defend Music. The label re-released AM's first record (Troubled Times) to great reviews and now, those searing good looks, soft hooks, and passionate subtleties are back with Soul Variations. ‘The Shadow Line’ is a masterful body of work influenced from a book of the same name by Joseph Conrad and is produced by Chris Potter (The Verve, Rolling Stones), who fell in love with the band as soon as he heard their first album. Their sound is urgent and gutsy, it’s intelligent and complex, underpinned by a framework of massive hooks.
Hailing from a mixture of Paris and Nottingham, they are a band who pull their influences from the far and wide. There's frontman Tom Evans classical violin playing, as well as his mastery of the piano, and his love of classic songwriters like Dylan and Van Morrison, matched with Barny Barratt (guitar), Gerald Youna (bass) and Mike Woolf’s (drums) more modernist leanings: Elbow, Radiohead, Bright Eyes. The lyrics are Evans’ but the Story One sound is of a band who have loved and assimilated the greatest songwriting records of the last 30 years.

After almost five years of absence one of Swedens most important indiepop bands are finally, finally back. Establishing himself as one of the world's most hard working and versatile musicians, Ben Harper is about to unleash his ninth studio gem. Lifeline, will be released August 28th via long time label, Virgin. The definition of a blue collar musician, Harper and The Innocent Criminals, consistently produce organic tunes that show a deep appreciation for music and it's composition. The latest single, "In The Colors", is an ode to such a process. Recorded in Paris over a seven day period, there were no computers or pro-tools used in the making of the album.
The video is just as simple and equally as beautiful. Set beneath a white backdrop, the video lacks the colors that Harper delicately croons about. However, it's absense is filled with strong percussion and a deep bassline.

For this special In The Company Of, Radio 1 met three of this year's Mercury Award nominees.
Fionn Regan, Bat for Lashes, and Maps recorded tracks at the legendary Maida Vale studios.
As well as recording their own tracks, they pulled together to record a special collaboration for the show. The track they chose was Higher Than The Sun, from Primal Scream's 1992 Mercury Award winning album Screamadelica.
Empezamos con Maroon 5,ya que han estado por España estos días. Según parece son muy obsesivos con la perfección del sonido, no les importa que la mayoría de sus fans sean mujeres,y han dicho que se retirarán en la cresta de la ola de la fama como Police. Dejando los egos de algunos de sus componentes (con lo que no puedo), es interesante que los 3 discos que tienen son diferentes. Digo 3,porque tengo en cuenta cuando eran Kara's flower y sonaban muy indies.
