Ni idea de esta banda, a pesar de ser "La banda indie del momento",gracias a Fennics (cajatonta.tv) por descubrírmela. La verdad es que eso me hace plantearme que hago el tonto haciendo este blog. Hay blogs mejores, y no se puede hablar de todas las bandas, además para eso están sitios como el MySpace, para que cada uno curiosee a su ritmo y gusto.

O quizás no. Todavía es pronto, pero la banda franco-finlandesa Thedø es una apuesta ganadora. De esas veces que escuchas una canción y sin querer se te cuela en la cabeza donde la tienes clavada en la cabeza el resto del día, o el mes. Y después te pasas por su MySpace y el resto de canciones está al mismo nivel.
¿Quiénes son? Olivia B. Merilahti, una joven graduada en el conservatorio Jazz de Helsinki y el francés Dan Levy, músico de jazz y compositor de bandas sonoras. Sacan su primer álbum Mouthfull en Enero del 2008. Como muchas bandas prometedoras, se están haciendo dando a conocer rápidamente gracias a que su single On My Shoulders aparece en un spot de televisión, en este caso como banda sonora del anuncio de cuadernos Oxford.

As a trio with a brassy front-woman the comparisons are sure to come aplenty, but San Diego's Grand Ole Party are forging their own place in rock 'n' roll with their unique mix of garage-blues, rock and raw energy. They recorded their debut album, Humanimals, in March 2007 with Blake Sennett (Rilo Kiley, The Elected) over a five-day stretch of live recording to capture the stripped-down power that embodies the Grand Ole Party sound. Coincidentally, the band will be heading out as support for Rilo Kiley's upcoming Fall tour. (Dates here.)
Humanimals will be released September 4 exclusively on iTunes with bonus track "Shot In The Alley," but the band will also be selling CDs at their upcoming shows. This week, we're featuring the album's haunting lead track, "Look Out Young Son" which sees Kristin Gundred, the drumming frontwoman extraordinaire, wailing "I must be the devil's daughter" over some dark garage rock. Sambassadeur returns with a new luxurious sound.
In 2003 and 2004 Sambassadeur lead an explosive Swedish pop movement of home recording artists who surprised our country by not only achieving overnight indie fame, thanks to the MP3 spreading kids, they actually reached the sales charts.
Considering the "Gothenburg-based band played wistful indie pop that put a Sarah Records or C86 ramshackleness on influences like the Velvet Underground and the Go Betweens" (PITCHFORK) this came as a surprise to many. To us, it proved that the average record buyer might not have the worst taste in music after all.
The new single "Subtle changes" showcases brand new sides of Sambassadeur. With help from producer Mattias Glavå (Broder Daniel, Dungen, Håkan Hellström) they've returned with a luxurious sound filled with disco hi-hats, swooping strings and orchestra drums that enhance their deceptive melodies to new heights.

Summertime is marriage season. Perhaps it's due to the cliche of summer love, perpetually beautiful weather or the opportunity for amazing photo ops in the backdrop of the summer's haze? Regardless, indie darlings Rilo Kiley didn't miss the marriage memo. They've sent out their invitations, and now its time to attend the virtual wedding of the summer.
"Silver Lining" features lead singer Jenny Lewis as the stunning, and slightly nervious, vision in white, while guitarist, Blake Sennett is cast as the dapper husband-to-be. From there, the story is filled with vintage cumberbuns, a mini church choir, handclaps, cameos and one major bridal transformation. As Jenny pulls her best runaway bride impression, it's easy to see that all that glitters isn't gold.

Con muchas ganas de escuchar el nuevo disco de Band of Horses. Si este año, la música que me ha dejado :o ha sido la de Cloud Cult, el pasado año fue la canción Funeral de Band of Horses, de su trabajo Everything all the time:
Achieving musical transcendence is a tricky feat, almost definitively. If it happens at all, it happens naturally and perhaps nobody knows that better than Seattle, Washingtons Band of Horses. Guitarist/vocalist Ben Bridwell and guitarist Mat Brooke formed Band of Horses in 2004, after the dissolution of their nearly ten-year run in northwest melancholic darlings Carissas Wierd. Carissas Wierd trafficked in sadly beautiful orchestral pop, whose songs told unflinching stories of heartbreak and loss, leavened with defeatist humor. And, Band of Horses rises from the ashes of that well-loved band. After playing music with each other for over a decade, Bridwell and Brooke picked up together again when Bridwell began fleshing out his compositions post-Carissas. It was really just a natural thing we started doing, explains Bridwell. Buoyed by Bridwells warm, reverb-heavy vocals (which strangely channel a dichotomous blend of Wayne Coyne, Brian Wilson and Doug Martsch,) Band of Horses woodsy, dreamy songs ooze with amorphous tension, longing and hope. At times raggedly epic (The Great Salt Lake) and delicately pensive (St. Augustine, Monsters), Everything All the Time is an album painted gorgeously in fragile highs and lows.

Hay gente que dice que cuando un artista vende una canción suya para un anuncio publicitario, se ha vendido. Pero es que muchas veces es la única manera de que su música llegue a más gente. O que incluso después del éxito que obtiene tras el spot, su disco se edite en otros países o que la banda no desaparezca. Ese fue el caso de Caesar con su "Jerk it out". Otras veces si que es cierto, que tanto se machaca la canción que la acabas odiando, o que luego la asocias más al anuncio que al grupo y a la música que ellos quieran ofrecerte después.

Probando la nueva función en blogger, que es la de subir videos.
El vídeo pertenece a una actuación en directo de Broken Dolls de hace más de un año. El vídeo es de Enero del 2006 o así. Desde entonces la formación ha cambiado algo, y en este concierto les acompañaba en la batería, John Garrison, quien ha participado en el resultado final del disco de debut de la banda, que salió el 23 de Julio.

De este artista hablé en el anterior blog -el de MySpace-, le conocí con Girl in the war incluida en su trabajo del 2006,The animal years(Letras/MP3s). Pronto llegará su The historical conquests of Josh Ritter, el cual está recibiendo buenas críticas, hasta el punto de decirse que Será el mejor disco del 2007.
Bio:
Over the clatter of piano and strum of an electric guitar that opens his fourth studio album, Josh Ritter leaps into rapid-fire lyrics that reference Joan of Arc, Calamity Jane and Florence Nightingale, all of whom seem to be stuck together in the belly of a whale. As the follow-up to last year's critically-acclaimed album The Animal Years, The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter is his most adventurous, fresh, and freewheeling work to date.
While The Animal Years was a meticulously crafted and stately paean, for Conquests the artist radically revamped his working methods and his sound. “I needed to be somebody different,” the singer says. “The air of gravitas around me was getting oppressive. For some reason it seemed like there was a premium being placed on earnestness and that can be pretty stifling. There was a lot of talk about true love and righteous indignation. I wanted to write about gunslingers and missile silos.” The result is an often raucous, occasionally dizzying affair, with pounding keyboards, strings, horns, and his new producer and long-time collaborator Sam Kassirer, leading the charge. About the recording conditions in the Maine farmhouse where the record was made, Ritter enthuses, “You should have seen it up there. It was January and twenty below. We had horns in the attic, we had strings in the barn, we had a gaggle of people shooting targets with bb guns in the woods. It was a full house and everyone was there to throw themselves at the music. There was no holding back.”
The artistic leaps Josh Ritter displays on Conquests are not without their stepping-stones, however. On a conceptual level, Paul McCartney’s Ram served as an ever-present reminder to enjoy the process of writing. Ritter was attracted to the free-spirited quality of the solo album McCartney made at his own farmhouse—amidst the Beatles’ tumultuous breakup: “It sounded like he had something to prove, but also like he didn’t really care. In terms of my favorite records, Ram is more about the philosophy. If this guy can do this after what he came through, then, okay, maybe I could try something like this too. It really loosened me up.” Stepping farther back, he cites Buddy Holly’s apocryphal "The Apartment Tapes" as a major influence. “A friend passed me Buddy Holly’s Apartment Tapes. The tapes are plain and genius. Buddy sang ‘Learning the Game’ and ‘That’s What they Say’ in his apartment in New York City and you can hear his wife bumping around in the kitchen and the whole thing feels clear but not simple. Those recordings feel like a Raymond Carver story. I listen to him and remember that it doesn’t have to be all nine-minute songs. That guy can get more across in a couplet than some people are lucky to learn in their whole life.”
Given the new lyrical and musical trails that he is blazing, The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter proves that one can still cross any number of Rubicons all the while not taking themselves too seriously. Historic indeed.

Y como no podía ser de otra manera, queremos celebrarlo de nuestro modo verbenero. En parte mentores de los Arctic Monkeys, llegaron las discográficas y le llegaron a ofrecer hasta 300.000 € por hacer un disco Arctic Monkeys. Ellos han decidido hacer su propia música, y estarán próximamente el 1 de Septiembre en el Ibiza Rocks.Su primer trabajo se llamará The state of things y saldrá con Wall of sound.

I'll save the fake spiel and pretense, divert from the formula of "say this and everyone will think you're the man".
Truth be told I had a million and one ideas floating round in my mind, the sort of thing that would drive someone crazy if you did nothing about it and beavered away at the 9-5 like a mouse on a wheel. And so you get to looking out of the factory or the office window and in trying to make sense of it the words just come. Tunes get written and ideas typed in outboxes and scrawled on the back of bus tickets until they're given form and become songs.
Maybe you might understand what i'm trying to say. Maybe you'll think its bollocks but you'll enjoy the groove and that??? I wish I could say I loved this band or that singer and that's why im doing this, but as I walk down the street I hear every type of song and maybe what i'm trying to say is that it all seeps into your mind somehow, until it all pours out!! If it moves you in someway, even the the tap of a foot then the war is won...

When the rumour of Those Dancing Days mixture of pop, girlgroup and Northern Soul started to surface in Stockholm during the winter months of 2007 the five piece act quickly became one of the most talked about new bands in eons. Their track "Hitten" (the Swedish translation - The Hit) became just what the title says - their MySpace inundated with praise from all over the world. With a recent record deal in hand the band are ready to release a five track EP/mini album where "Hitten" leads the way into their charm-filled world. Those Dancing Days formed in Nacka- a suburb of Stockholm - in 2005. From the ashes of Rebecka Rolfart (guitar), Cissi Efraimsson (drums) and Lisa Pyk Wirström's former band, Those Dancing Days found their line-up completed when college friend Mimmi Evrell (bas) was asked to join who in her turn asked vocalist Linnea Jönsson. With this done things started to develop quickly. A demo was recorded and after songs were addded to their MySpace the feedback was instant. American music site -It's A Trap- got it spot on when they wrote "Sweet as apple-pie pop". The Debut Those Dancing Days EP hits the record stores at the end of August and the album will come early 2008 - before that the girls will be hitting all the major Swedish festivals.

Contrary to their title, The Somnambulants are anything but sleepy. They have been making an energetic, dance-friendly, and unique brand of indie/electro-pop since 2000.
While recording Paper Trail, the girl/boy duo kept to their own rule: avoid writing of "electro" songs. With one or two exceptions, they worked with rock, blues, or pop compositions and arranged them using electronic instruments. The resulting album is a mix of songwriting styles wrapped in a single synthetic wrapper, with each track as unique and memorable as the next. The Somnambulants "are more indie-pop-influenced than most of their contemporaries, and that, I think, is a good thing." (Village Voice)
Stylistically, The Somnambulants are even more driven by cinematic influence, as evidenced in their lyrical imagery and spacious production. Joseph White built the first Somnambulants songs from music soundtrack pieces composed during his tenure as a film student. In fact, their name was taken from the somnambulist character - Cesare - in the 1920 German film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. It's fitting, therefore, that the title track from their previous album, Evacuation, appeared in the soundtrack for the Oscar-nominated film Half Nelson (Lakeshore Records).
Joseph White acts as producer, lead singer, and bass player. The duo's second half is keyboardist & singer Channing Sargent. "If you've seen the Somnambulants perform, no doubt you've walked away charmed by (and maybe a little smitten with) the onstage relationship between White and Channing Sargent" (Jersey Independent Music/NJ.com). Together, they've shared bills with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Tracy & the Plastics, Dirty on Purpose, Au Revoir Simone, My Favorite, Asobi Seksu, My Robot Friend, and other up-and-coming indie bands.
Founded in Brooklyn, NYC, The Somnambulants are now based in San Francisco.

But that might be the most nostalgic thing about Bring on the Comets, the third album by the Kentucky-based trio VHS or Beta. The group that once took its primary inspiration from dance-pop heroes, ranging from Duran Duran to Daft Punk, has toughened its sound and shifted focus from slinky beats to sullen melodies on tracks like "Can't Believe a Single Word," "The Stars Where We Came From," and the high-strung "Time Stands Still." While album highlight "Burn It All Down" proves the group can still knock out a dizzying club jam, this release is mostly a testament to its newfound ease around wailing guitars, live drums, and bearded members of My Morning Jacket. Su debut fue Soundtrack to a Headrush (2005)
"This is the sound that sparks the fire," sings Matt Breen on Emanuel's debut album, and it's easy to see his point. Soundtrack To A Headrush is filled with songs that immediately burn into the brain, from the rampaging guitar histrionics of "You Cannot Rape The Willing" to the measured emotional pull of "Make Tonight." The thing is, there is no specific sound to speak of - this is the kind of album that immediately sets off a game of guess the influence. Was that chord change more reminiscent of Helmet or Black Flag? Does that rhythm sound more like The (International) Noise Conspiracy or Cave In? Was that just an AC/DC riff I heard? El 28 de agosto saldrá el nuevo trabajo de esta banda americana que se llamará Scream & Light Up the Sky . Y me ha gustado mucho su tema "The city's summer" y el del video que pondremos también, asi que, toca hablar de ellos.

Jason Schwartzman (of 'Rushmore' and Phantom Planet fame) just released a solo album under the alias Coconut Records called 'Nighttiming.' For the disc's first video, 'West Coast,' Schwartzman tapped his pal Cheryl Dunn for directorial duties and pro-skater Mark Gonzales as the subject. Since Schwartzman is currently off shooting the Ben Stiller film 'The Marc Pease Experience,' Gonzales crafted the video with rare skateboarding footage from an exhibit in Germany.

Por un lado, como diría uno de los de The hours, actualmente con tanto material, uno no le presta atención a los discos tanto, no se disfrutan tanto,porque siempre hay algo nuevo que escuchar. Asi que,desde ese punto de vista, estar 4 semanas con los mismos discos, ha estado bien. Sobre todo en el caso de Air Traffic. Si tienes idea de escuchar más temas como Charlotte o I like that, la primera escucha es muy decepcionante, porque descubres que sólo esas canciones eran distintas, y el resto te hace a la idea de que la banda es una copia de Coldplay. Luego con las escuchas, descubres que hay más temas "animados", que aunque Get in line te recuerde a Living la vida loca, por su inicio y ritmo, que tanto me gusta, y luego parezca que cantan The Kooks, y luego se vuelven algo Weezer, la canción te gusta. Y las lentas, aún recordando a Coldplay o a Muse, te acaban gustando. El resto de discos que tenía eran Two Hours Traffic (un álbum de veranito, y para poner calor y buen humor a estos días no tan veraniegos), The Mary Onettes (me encantaría ir a verlos al Moby Dick), John Garrison (de la ya injustamente desaparecida Budapest), Athlete (de los cuales conocia Wires y algunas más, les presté atención el dia que en una tienda de discos vi la portada de su segundo trabajo -creo que era el 2º- y como me gustó,empecé a investigar. El nuevo trabajo supongo que será como los anteriores, de esos que, si estás en plan de escuchar algo más movido, necesita que le dediques algunas escuchar, y descubrar algunas joyitas o partes interesantes), los dos últimos de Cloud Cult, que cada vez me fascinan más, el Phages de The Most Serene Republic, cuya batería te hipnotiza, y de los que ya hablamos recientemente por aqui, porque sacarán pronto nuevo trabajo. Y también habia el energético disco de Kubichek, los variaditos Mason Proper,el último de Lifehouse, el gran Ten new messages de The rakes ... y luego muchas canciones sueltas.
A pesar de la cantidad y variedad, una ya necesitaba cambiar, y aún no habiendo mucho a mano, hoy escuchando su disco,no me arrepiento de la elección. Pensaba que Coconut Records eran muy muy tranquilillos, pero cuando he escuchado Nighttiming que da título al trabajo de Coconut... Me he quedado encantada escuchando la música de Jason Schwartzman. Desafortunadamente la primera elección de video no ha sido para este tema, pero West Coast no es mala elección y muestra otro lado de su música, y es que después de Air Traffic, me he dicho: Una sola canción no define a una banda. O por lo menos, Charlotte no define a Air Traffic, dado que el resto de temas son como Coldplay. Os dejo con West Coast. Y el tema Nighttiming podéis escucharlo en su MySpace, así como el tema This old machine.

Jason Schwartzman (of 'Rushmore' and Phantom Planet fame) just released a solo album under the alias Coconut Records called 'Nighttiming.' For the disc's first video, 'West Coast,' Schwartzman tapped his pal Cheryl Dunn for directorial duties and pro-skater Mark Gonzales as the subject. Since Schwartzman is currently off shooting the Ben Stiller film 'The Marc Pease Experience,' Gonzales crafted the video with rare skateboarding footage from an exhibit in Germany.

Después de un mes en el que he tenido que escuchar los mismos discos en el MP3. Tocaba por fin cambiar. WHY I COVERED THE ENTIRE "AGAINST ME!" ALBUM "NEW WAVE"
A couple of weeks ago I downloaded the new "Against Me!" album "New Wave". I didnt really know too much about this band but had been reading lots of good things about it, and my friend Tegan sings on it. I like to keep myself up to date with whats going on musically in the world, so I checked it out. I fell in love with the album. Really. Like, couldn't stop listening to it. As heavy and gnarly as it sounds at times, it is unmistakably a pop masterpiece. Listening to it on the way to Australia, I wondered to myself how these songs would sound acoustically.
A couple of days later I was on a flight from Sydney to Melbourne and had the thought "I'd love to cover this album." The whole thing. Beginning to end. So I did.
Anyway, here are the results. If you already know the original album, I hope these recordings shed a different light on it. If you don't know "Against Me!" and like what you hear, go check them out.
Nic Johns is the unspoken hero of this tale. He recorded, produced and mixed it and basically made my dream a reality. Hats off to him.
Hope you guys dig it.

Con Mason Proper me despido hasta dentro de unos días, donde estaré no hay conexión a internet :S. Y acabamos con Mason Proper porque se merecían un post en el blog, porque según ellos han escuchado rumores de que vienen a España y porque no todos los días una banda se marca el detallazo de dejarte escuchar todo su disco de debut. Un disco diferente a los que he escuchado últimamente, donde no les saco parecido a nadie, aunque lo tendrán. Únicamente la preciosa Life's a cornucopia recuerda mucho a Radiohead.

Otherwise known as British singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and visual artist Natasha Khan, her debut album is comprised of sounds emerged in timeless forms. Fur and Gold was released last year on Caroline Records, but has steadily garnered enough praise to easily be on everyone's Best of 2007 lists.
Album opener, "Horse And I", is equally as intense as it is beautiful. Although Khan's deep and haunting vocals will no doubt provide many a Bjork comparison, Khan still manages to remain both imaginative and impressive. -Filter-mag.com

In the booklet of Starlet's masterpiece, the second album STAY ON MY SIDE, you can read the words »Damn you people who inspired us to write these songs« in the thank you notes. One of their biggest assets was always that they could be miserable as hell, but they never seemed whining. They were sarcastic, possibly even bitter, and they struck back hard on anyone who didn't like them. Still the music sounded like pure love.
After their third album WHEN SUN FALL ON MY FEET the main vocalist and songwriter of the band, Jonas Färm, lived in poverty and depression in a certain record label's office and worked on a fourth album which was to be both the most beautiful and darkest of all Starlet albums. Unfortunately the plans grew so big they killed his productivity and the album never became more than a handful of song sketches.
In July 2007 Jonas Färm recorded Depeche Mode's THE SUN AND THE RAINFALL and by this managed to recover from his overwhelming pressure of achievement. Starlet is now back in the studio to record their fourth album, due to be released in the spring of 2008. One-man band Throw Me The Statue unveils his first indie-pop gem in the form of “Lolita” a bouncy drum machine driven, xylophone sprinkled song recalling Magnetic Fields and Belle and Sebastian if they were to suddenly collaborate with The Avalanches. The song is all high energy beats matched with a twee-pop sensibility, and utterly enjoyable.

Banda que no conocía, hasta que versionaron el gran "Ageless Beauty" de Stars. Ayer tenía a mano su trabajo Phages, y decidí darle otra oportunidad y me ha encantado. Probablemente la otra vez no estaría en un día muy propicio para escuchar su música.Su nuevo trabajo Population saldrá el 2 de Octubre, al igual que el nuevo trabajo de Matchbox Twenty.
Y por si no lo he dicho antes, Stars lanzan el 25 de Septiembre su nuevo trabajo In our bedroom after the war.

The album was self-produced by the band in Toronto over the last year, and was inspired by the sprawling suburbs of their hometown of Milton, Ontario. Musically, they sound as grandiose as ever. Kelefa Sanneh wrote in the New York Times that "Will Sheff, leader of the Austin indie-rock band Okkervil River, writes like a novelist." Pitchfork's Stephen Deusner added, "like all good storytellers, Sheff is interested in conflict...and he has the uncommon and perhaps unenviable gifts for speaking fluently through his misery-heavy characters." With their newest release, The Stage Names, Okkervil River dynamite the walls of Black Sheep Boy's gothic, moss-walled castle from the inside to let in the glaring sun. Where Black Sheep Boy presented a fairytale of dark babbling streams and high distant towers, The Stage Names ¨takes place in an unmistakably modern world, where snowy televisions blast into cheap hotels the spectral images of soap stars endlessly betraying each other, where losers in late-night bars languish to the beat of their favorite songs, where broken-down actresses place their final cell calls from lonely mansions high in the hills. Riddled with characters real and fake, with true-life biography and brazenly fabricated autobiography, with the relics of high culture and the crumpled-up trash of low culture, The Stage Names is a cinemascopic take on the meaning of entertainment.
And, crucially, it entertains. Reverberant with echoes of Motown snap and girl-group pop, redolent with ripe whiffs of dirty rock 'n' roll, shining with the shimmy of Bo Diddley, with the shimmer of the Velvets, with the swagger of the Faces, and with a glittery sprinkling of cheap perfume over the top of it all to disguise the stink, The Stage Names is a relentlessly-paced and ruthlessly thrilling journey.
Their fourth full-length may also be Okkervil River's most conceptually gnarled work to date, as frontman Will Sheff's intricately detailed lyrics leap from the ornate to the blunt, encompass philosophical inquiries and goofily playful riffing, invite the listener into confidence only to con them. With a voice both poetic and toughly slangy, these songs are equal parts high-concept filigree and low, street-level kicks; they're both artistically ambitious and refreshingly unpretentious.
Written on the beds and beat-up couches of hotels, guest-rooms, and fourth-floor walk-ups during the itinerant Sheff's travels around the United States and tenure in New York City, recorded in Austin with longtime Okkervil River co-producer Brian Beattie, and mixed at Jim Eno of Spoon's Public Hi-Fi studio, The Stage Names eschews outsider guests to focus on the core lineup of a backing band made tight and road-weary in rock clubs around the world. These songs give members of this usually shambolic troupe (keyboardist Jonathan Meiburg, drummer Travis Nelsen, electric guitarist Brian Cassidy, bassist Patrick Pestorius, and coronet player Scott Brackett) the occasion to turn in bravura performances as Sheff's distinctively heated vocals, never more assured or in control, sail on top of them.
