If the Perishers aren't careful, they're gonna get kicked out of the "the"-band coalition. The group eschews silly retro rock in favor of burnished indie pop. Along with acts like the National, they seem to point to a new era of clean urban tunesmithing, one where the droll trumps the ironic.
