“Your Urge” - Maximo Park [MP3 via Spin]
A seeming pep talk for hedonism, "Your Urge," the latest track off Maximo Park's upcoming Our Earthly Pleasures (out May 8 via Warp), is rife with mentions of drunken stumbles and quivering ooohs. "You don't have to deny your urge / It doesn't make you bad," nervy frontman Paul Smith coos during the song's opening seconds. And though Smith worships the off-hours ("The weekend is a Godsend / The nighttime is a lifeline") as piano trios and thrashy drums swell the song forward, Smith is surprisingly -- and sincerely -- hesitant: "My nervous system fails me / My thoughts are becoming fugitive / And when I'm in your arms / I wonder how much I can give."
