Volvemos con Yael Naim. La descubrí por casualidad en un programa de variedades de TvÁvila. Y si no hubiera sido por eso, su versión de Toxic, original de Britney Spears, que se usa para promocionar la vuelta de la serie "El internado" en Antena3, me hubiera llevado a ella.

We Were The States. We live off Bukowski, red wine and Italian food. Our stereos swell with the sounds of The Kinks, The Walkmen, Oasis, Dandy Warhols, and the like. We are men of passion. Some are college educated, some would rather stay out of it. It is no doubt that all are wise.
The band as we know it today began in February of 2007 but its roots can be traced back to 2003. Jay Stoyanov and Justin Webb met at the restaurant they both worked at in Murfreesboro, TN. After a couple of years of writing and playing with several musicians, they finally found a solid line-up with the addition of Ben Moore on bass and Nick Devan on drums.
They recorded and self released an E.P. Nick later left to curate the National Knife Museum and was replaced by the outstanding Tyler Coppage. In 2007, they signed with Austin indie Chicken Ranch Records, changed their name and sound, and began work on their debut full length entitled Believe the Thieves.
The album was produced by Tennesse rock staple Brian Carter (The Features, Glossary, The Nobility). The album was recorded in two weeks but Brian and the brave men of WWTS spent several months tweaking every element to the desired sonic quality. What is left is a disfunctionaly glorious piece of sound.

Biography
The Explorers Club's sunny psychedelic pop, replete with lush arrangements and cushy four-part harmonies, harkens back to a decade long ago, when kids turned on their FM radios to find the cool new thing. The band draws on the soul-satisfying vocal style made famous by the Beach Boys and the Association, and pairs it with arrangements patented by the likes of Phil Spector, the Left Banke and the Zombies. These 1960s pop reference points are undeniable, but this is not a band that sounds influenced by the Beach Boys records in their collection - the Explorers Club's pop songs sound as authentic as if they had actually just been unearthed for a new Nuggets collection or compiled for a deluxe Sundazed or Rev-Ola reissue. In other words, this bunch of early twenty-somethings channel a bygone era without sounding burdened by it. This type of pleasure-seeking pop sound historically hails from beachside towns, and the Explorer's Club is no exception; their home is not an iconic California surfing city but Charleston, South Carolina. Twenty-six-year-old Jason Brewer does the songwriting and arranging, while the complex vocal harmonies come courtesy of James Faust, Nathan Hussey, and David Ellis. Filling out the instrumental sound of the Explorers Club on organ and drums, respectively, are Stefan Rogenmoser and Neil Thomas. This six-man band has been charming new fans with epic live shows since July of 2005, and with a debut album on the horizon, the Explorers Club is primed to reintroduce some splendor into the pop music world.

Formado a mediados de 2005, Buzzers (Ángel Morán, bajo y voz; Iván Morán en la guitarra y Roberto González a la batería) se mueve entre estilos que van desde el pop al rock, aunque como sus integrantes comentan “añadimos a nuestros temas los colores que cada canción, por sí misma, nos pide”.
Los hermanos Ángel e Iván Morán comenzaron su andadura musical en 2003 formando parte de La Badulaque, una banda de versiones de Rock’n Roll. Cuando este proyecto finaliza, deciden que ha llegado el momento de componer e interpretar sus propios temas. Así es como nace Buzzers.
Un año después Roberto González se une al proyecto como baterista. Roberto aporta al grupo su experiencia en otras bandas como Still Without Name, así como los conocimientos adquiridos como alumno de Pedro Cuevas.
Hoy por hoy, Buzzers está abriéndose un hueco en la difícil escena underground madrileña, dando conciertos en algunas de las salas más potentes del circuito actual (La Sal, El Juglar, Ritmo & Compás, Fotomatón, FNAC...) y participando en festivales como el Festival Benéfico Yosoyunladrillo (www.yosoyunladrillo.com) o el Madrid Pop Festival (www.myspace.com/impf2007), junto a grupos como Sion, Anima Pop, Estrella Polar, Zenttric o The Cigrones.
Sus influencias mezclan sonidos que van desde Elvis a Hellacopters, pasando por Radiohead, House of Pain, U2, Pixies, Led Zeppelin o Jon Spencer, entre otros.

Vamos con una banda, que últimamente se ve en varios blogs, pero con tanta cosa... necesitas que alguien te diga: Escucha esta canción que mola. Asi que, por fin, The Dodos aparecen en este blog y en esa lista de Cosas a las que prestar mi atención.

Visiter by San Francisco band The Dodos is their second full length and first for Frenchkiss. Originally formed in 2006 under the moniker Dodobird as a one man acoustic act, Meric Long would gig around SF playing folky guitar w/ a combination of loops and ambient keyboards. Having already studied West African Ewe drumming, Meric got turned onto country blues fingerpicking and sought to create a band where the drumming could be a center role and help bring out the syncopated rhythms coming out of the acoustic guitar. Through a chance introduction by a roommate, Meric met Santa Cruz transplant Logan Kroeber, who had also been experimenting with drumming, but in the area of progressive metal. Eventually the band changed their name to the Dodos, through constant harrowing from first tourmates Peter and the Wolf, and got a rehearsal studio where they'd spend long hours improvising the music that would become their first record Beware of the Maniacs. The band quit their day jobs as a line cook and a printer and hit the road in Oct. 2006.
The Dodos' principal concept behind Visiter was to reconnect with the energy and intensity of their live show. They decided to return to Type Foundry Studio where Beware of the Maniacs had been recorded. With producer/engineer John Askew back at the helm, they began expounding upon what they had learned since the previous record. The basic drum and guitar takes were recorded live simultaneously with very minimal post production. Type Foundry's warehouse-sized live room led to experimentation with mic placement, capturing a variety of ambient & natural sounds. At one point during tracking, the audible din of a thunderstorm inspired an impromptu horn session between Meric and guest trumpeter, Cory Gray. A small section of this can be heard between the songs "Fools" and "Joe's Waltz" on the record.
Visiter was completely written while on the road from the fall of 2006 to the summer of 2007.
The name of the record came from a drawing a kid did for them when they played for his special education class at Dorsey High in South Central on a road trip down to LA. With all of their time being spent on the road, Meric's lyrics drew heavily from his experiences while touring. They would come home for days at a time, and then leave for a month, always coming and going, which pretty much shaped every relationship the band had during that year.
The Dodos toured in 2007 with Les Savy Fav, Akron/Family, Jennifer Gentle, Wovenhand and Peter and the Wolf. 2008 will bring even more touring for them with a Spring tour confirmed dates at Noise Pop and SXSW.

Concierto en Salamanca
El concierto de Salamanca programado para el día 10 de abril, ha tenido que retrasarse por causas ajenas al Artista. La nueva fecha de concierto de Iván Ferreiro será el día 16 de mayo en el Caem de Salamanca.
Está previsto que las entradas salgan a la venta el próximo viernes día 4 de abril, a través de El Corte Inglés. - IvanFerreiro.es

El 31 de Marzo, Jonquil estuvo en el Café La Palma en Madrid, dándonos a conocer su sonido en directo. Como me temía la cosa fue muy breve, tan sólo media hora. Empezaron una hora más tarde de lo previsto, bien para disfrutar tomándose algo tranquilamente en el Café, que está muy bien ambientado y decorado. Aparecieron alrededor de las 22h, y de repente consiguieron hacer un silencio rotundo para empezar a cantar el cantante, con una potente voz, que en el disco no se percibe con tanta fuerza. Abrieron nada más comenzar con su temazo Lions. Para luego seguir con más temas de Lions. Y aunque el escenario era algo estrecho, ellos parecían estar más o menos cómodos. Me gustó mucho su sonido, cuando cantaban todos a la vez con esas voces y sin instrumentos y cuando se arrancaban con el acordeón o con el violín.Seis grandes músicos que nos dejaron con ganas de más.
Aunque los videos sean cutres, los dejo aqui, para que no se me olvide que allí estuvimos. No recuerdo qué canción fue, creo que Whistle Low, que ya estaba ahi disfrutando a tope, y de repente se acaba... mier... De los 3 que fuimos, a dos nos encantó y al otro, no le hizo especial gracia. Pero cada uno tenemos sus gustos.
