Canciones para ti

Great Northern - "The Middle" MP3
(Trading Twilight For Daylight,2007)

Después de escuchar esta canción y Home que escuchamos en el anterior player, todavía tengo más ganas de escuchar el disco.

Silverlake, California's Great Northern could be your new favorite band. Their music paints vivid scenes in your mind with soaring strings and pristine harmonies. It's the kind of music that you carry close to your chest when falling in (or out of) love. Their male-female harmonies weave seamlessly as unforgettable melodies are draped in stately piano. Great Northern's debut album Trading Twilight For Daylight (out this week via Eenie Meenie Records) serves up ten tracks of memorably bittersweet indie-pop. Pick it up now before everyone else catches on.-Filter-mag.

The Boggs "Poor Things" MP3
(Forts)

Currently touring with The Long Blondes and Hot Chip, The Boggs are starting to make waves. The brainchild of New Yorker Jason Friedman, The Boggs have just released their album Forts on Gigantic Music. Joined by various member of indie-darlings The Liars and Au Revoir Simone, Forts sees The Boggs on familiar, experimental ground – blending elements of bedroom acoustica with dense nu-rave beats.

“Poor Things” sounds like the remix of a kids TV theme; all gently strummed ukulele crashing up against repetitive dance rock beats with breaks of overdriven guitar adding texture and flavor. “Poor Things” indeed!

Shapes And Sizes "Alone/Alive" MP3
(Split Lips, Winning Hips, A Shiner)

If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to distract Sufjan Stevens from his uncommon interest in Midwestern lore, your answer lies in Shapes and Sizes, the first and only Canadian act signed to Stevens’ indie-label Asthmatic Kitty. Instead of spinning yarns about the 4th tallest girl in Omaha, Shapes and Sizes record completely bombastic song-writing experiments, tricky tunes that graced their eponymous debut in 2006 and have now sprouted enough underlings to warrant a second release, entitled Split Lips, Winning Hips, A Shiner.

Yes, it’s a bit of a mouthful, but it’s an earful too. Standout track “Alone/Alive” is like a piece of music stuck in a department store fitting room, switching back and forth between the monochromatic mod suit of its mechanical intro and the black-tie + loose jeans combo of its twice-realized breakdown, which brings to mind the image of a garage band tuning their instruments in an orchestra pit. The two outfits are equally entertaining, but whenever the music changes out of one and into the other, it reveals the wiry but broad-shouldered body behind the song’s frenetic, riff-heavy mid-section. Play peeping tom and listen to “Alone/Alive” below!-Filter-mag.

  1. Ya me tienes intrigado con los famosos Great Northern. Por más que busco no encuentro nada de ellos. Habrá que esperar.
